CMS Awards $347 Million to Healthcare Groups to Improve Patient Safety, Article by Elizabeth Whitman, Modern Healthcare

CMS recently announced that it will award $347M in “Hospital Improvement and Innovation Network Contracts” aimed at “improving patient safety by decreasing hospital-acquired conditions and hospital readmissions.” The Margolin Group commends the organizations selected to undertake this work and is proud to have served as advisers to and partners with several of these organizations.

TMG’s co-founders, Leslie Margolin and Joanna Horsfall, have experienced firsthand the transformative power of well-built patient safety initiatives. Horsfall built the business case and Margolin – as President of Anthem Blue Cross (California) – secured funding for and launched “Patient Safety First … A California Partnership for Health.” This patient safety collaborative of unprecedented scale and impact is credited with saving more than 3,600 lives and achieving savings of approximately $63M in its first three years of operation.
