Cost, Not Choice, is Top Concern of Health Insurance Customers, Article by Reed Abelson, The New York Times

A recent New York Times article indicated that a “laser focus on price” by health care consumers is resulting in unexpected losses for several of the nation’s top insurers. These findings are consistent with a research brief released in October 2015 by the Department of Health and Human Services.

According to the article, while many health insurers continue to turn a profit overall, fewer healthy people are signing up for insurance than anticipated, highlighting the need for additional subsidies and calling into question the long-term viability without government intervention of certain state exchanges.

The Margolin Group has anticipated this evolving marketplace and works with clients to develop unique, collaborative strategies to transform care and coverage, resulting in better quality, safety, service and access, while reducing costs for hospitals, health plans and consumers alike.
