In a speech entitled “The Virtue of the Virtual”, Margolin described her concept of virtually integrated Care Innovation Corridors. Addressing hundreds of attendees at the annual conference of the Southern California Chapter of the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), a cause-based, not-for-profit organization providing global leadership for the optimal use of information technology and management systems for the betterment of healthcare, Margolin invited her listeners to think beyond their individual silos and beyond their quarterly returns. She encouraged them to work together to crack the code of creating a more useful, more failsafe, virtual, ubiquitous health record—to create a system with a common language that unleashes the power of the information contained within each of the inputs — to move to a new frontier of creating a universal technology that knows a person across the entire system of care and coverage, not just during his or her isolated clinical care experiences, but throughout his/her entire life, in sickness and in health.
